Uzbekistan Takes an Important Step Towards Gender Equality in the Water Sector: Gender Concept for 2025–2030 Presented

Tashkent, 16 May 2025 — The Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan officially presented the Water Sector Gender Concept for 2025–2030. This strategic document aims to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men in water resources management.

The presentation took place during an expanded meeting of the Gender Council under the Ministry of Water Resources and the working group responsible for developing the Concept. The event was attended by representatives of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Asian Development Bank, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, as well as national and international partner organizations.

Key objectives and priorities of the Gender Concept:

  • increasing women’s active participation in water resources management;
  • developing gender statistics and gender audits;
  • introducing gender-responsive budgeting;
  • ensuring equal access to education and research in the water sector;
  • improving Uzbekistan’s position in international rankings.

The event featured expert presentations, video materials on the development of the Concept, feedback from the regions, and discussions on the Action Plan scheduled for implementation through 2027.

The Water Sector Gender Concept is more than a strategic document—it is an important step towards a fairer, more efficient and sustainable future.
