Fifth Meeting of the Sector Working Group on Water Resources, Water Supply and Sanitation

The fifth meeting of the Sector Working Group on Water Resources, Water Supply and Sanitation was held as part of an international conference. The event brought together working group members representing government bodies, competent authorities, sector experts and international partners to discuss key strategic, regulatory and legal initiatives in the water sector.

Participants discussed the implementation of the Water Resources Management and Irrigation Sector Development Programme of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2025–2028. They identified its priority areas and explored opportunities to coordinate the Programme with initiatives supported by international donors. Particular attention was paid to coordinating joint projects aimed at improving water-use efficiency, ensuring sustainable financing for the sector, and expanding public access to safe water and sanitation.

The meeting also addressed monitoring and evaluation indicators set out in the recently adopted Water Sector Gender Concept. Participants shared experience in introducing best practices and identified the next steps for advancing gender equality in water resources management, water supply and sanitation in Uzbekistan.

The meeting was attended by Zokir Ishpulatov, First Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Co-Chair of the Sector Working Group; Ozoda Jurayeva, Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services; Nodir Khodjamov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Uzsuvtaminot JSC; and Andrin Fink, Lead Development Partner of the Sector Working Group and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Switzerland.

The meeting provided a platform for strengthening cooperation between government institutions and international partners, promoting innovative solutions, and advancing effective water resources management in Uzbekistan.
