Development Partners Meet to Discuss the Water Sector

On 31 May 2022, a meeting of the Sector Working Group for the Coordination of Water Sector Development Partners was held in Tashkent.

Uzbekistan has established close cooperation with international and donor organizations to support the development of the country’s water sector. Numerous initiatives and projects are being implemented within this framework.

Since 2015, meetings of the Sector Working Group have been held regularly, providing a platform for dialogue among water sector development partners.

The Working Group comprises representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, relevant ministries and government agencies, and international and donor organizations operating in the country. Its primary objective is to promote effective cooperation in developing the water sector and facilitate dialogue between the Government and donors to coordinate their activities.

During the meeting, B. Kamalov, Head of the Centre for the Implementation of Foreign Investment Projects in the Water Sector, presented information on the reforms being carried out under the Water Sector Development Concept and Strategy.

“We are ready to support the reforms being implemented by the Government of Uzbekistan,” said Rahel Boesch, Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland in Uzbekistan. “Representatives of various ministries, government agencies, and international and donor organizations have gathered here today for this purpose.”

Participants discussed the agenda items with a focus on coordinating grant-funded projects in Uzbekistan’s water sector, preventing the duplication of activities across projects, and improving their overall effectiveness.

The event was organized with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
