UZBEKISTAN AND THE UAE EXPAND PRACTICAL COOPERATION ON WATER AND ENERGY

As part of World Water Week, representatives of the Uzbekistan delegation met with Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates for Energy and Sustainability and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Masdar City.

The meeting addressed the interconnected nature of water, energy and sustainable development; the mobilisation of innovative technologies and investment for the sector; and the wider adoption of effective solutions to water scarcity.

The parties exchanged views on preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference, to be held in Abu Dhabi on 8–10 December under the co-chairmanship of the UAE and Senegal, and on advancing concrete initiatives that contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6.

They also explored prospects for cooperation with the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, which aims to accelerate innovative and technological solutions to global water scarcity.

The parties highlighted the significant potential for cooperation in improving water and energy efficiency, deploying technologies suited to arid regions, mobilising investment, and piloting and scaling up modern solutions.

Representatives of the UAE were invited to attend the International Water Conservation Forum, to be held in Samarkand this autumn.
